MEDICAID
programs
The task of the Medicaid Department of the Bergen County Board of Social
Services is to efficiently and equitably administer the regulations of Federal,
State and County funded Medical programs that offer medical benefits to various
categories of eligible individuals.
MEDICAID
ONLY
A program of medical benefits under Title XIX, available to aged, blind, or
disabled individuals who do not wish to receive a money payment (SSI) but who
have financial and/or medical eligibility and either reside in the community or
who are receiving care in an eligible medical institution.
MEDICALLY
NEEDY
A program enacted by P.L. 1985, Chap. 381, that extends limited Medicaid
program benefits to certain groups of Medically Needy persons whose income
and/or resources exceed the standards for other Medicaid Programs, but is
insufficient to meet their medical expenses.
COMMUNITY CARE PROGRAM
FOR THE ELDERLY AND DISABLED
A program to help eligible individuals to remain in the community, or to
return to the community, rather than be cared for in a long term care facility
or a hospital setting by use of specific home and community based services . The
cost to Medicaid for services provided under CCPED generally cannot be greater
than 70% of the cost of institutionalization of that individual.
MODEL WAIVER
A program to help eligible individuals to remain in the community or to
return to the community rather than be cared for in a long term care facility or
a hospital setting by use of home and community based services. The cost to
Medicaid for services provided to the Model Waiver client cannot be greater than
the cost of institutionalization of that same client. Those served under this
program would normally not be eligible for Medicaid services while living at
home because of their own income or because of SSI deeming rules.
NEW JERSEY CARE
A program to help aged, blind, and disabled individuals, and pregnant women
and children under age 19 who meet the financial eligibility requirements. This
program provides expanded eligibility for Medicaid to a group of individuals
whose income exceeds Medicaid Only or TANF/WFNJ standards. Aged, blind and
disabled individuals must have income below the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
