The
State Coverage Initiatives (SCI)
program is a national initiative of
The
Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that works with
states to plan, execute, and maintain health insurance expansions, as
well as to improve the availability and affordability of health care
coverage. The program was launched in 1999 and re-authorized in 2002 for
two years.
Academy Health serves
as the national program office for SCI.
SCI's team of policy experts works with states to help them
expand coverage to working families, build on employer-based health
insurance, and foster collaboration among stakeholders. SCI tailors
their approach to state decision-makers' needs and helps create coverage
solutions within the context of each state's unique fiscal and political
environment.
AcademyHealth
is the professional home for health services researchers, policy
analysts, and practitioners, and a leading, non-partisan resource for
the best in health research and policy. Academy Health promotes
interaction across the health research and policy arenas by bringing
together a broad spectrum of players to share their perspectives, learn
from each other, and strengthen their working relationships.
To address the need to reduce the number of
uninsured children and adults who are eligible for public health care
coverage programs but not enrolled,
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation launched
Covering Kids & Families
(CKF), a four-year, $55 million dollar
initiative to increase the number of children and families who benefit
from existing health care coverage programs.
Covering Kids & Families operates through statewide projects in 45
states and the District of Columbia and more than 140 local community
projects. In addition, 4 states have CKF liaison grants that provide
opportunities to participate in the national CKF initiative.
